Want to learn about our children's dance program?

Question: What makes the Children's Dance Classes
at KMB Studio
 unique?
Answer: "We teach lifelong wellness in tandem with dance skills. We do not focus on competition circuits and we do not use inappropriate music, choreography, or costuming. Our curriculum anchors on injury prevention and conditioning practices with developmentally appropriate exercises and dances for every age group. The dress code is expected to be age appropriate and modest so that the focus is on cleanliness and accommodating to dancing and stretching. Contrary to culture, not every child will be a star just by joining the right studio. (By the way, dancing for reasons other than fame and narcissism is a good and lovely thing!) In a world in dire need of less egocentrism, less selling out, and more altruistic multi-talented citizens, my sincere belief is that all children need to learn healthy self-esteem and presentation skills, they need to work hard at something, they need to hone a talent to be a well-rounded person, and they deserve a safe welcoming place to have fun and be themselves."
All the best -Kelly McCormick Bangs

A partnership between The Green Nursery and KMB Studio for Music and Movement, we welcome all children birth-6 yrs, but toddlers thru preschoolers, will especially enjoy. 15-20 min story and snack, 20 min dance and music. Naturally, some of the song movement material might build and blossom over time for some of the regular participants but we try to keep Little's Hour consistent week to week, so that kids become comfortable. Many children watch at first, then become more familiar and join in after a few weeks. We select a new story each week and a new theme each semester.

KMB CM Series are thoughtfully designed to help children safely move through the progressions of class and to have lots of fun! Lessons will integrate and subtly re-enforce academic curriculum that your child may currently be studying in school or homeschool- our goal is to help children learn and practice through playful movement. Providing an artistic way for your child to exercise and express themselves through dynamic movements, we build skills in coordination, rhythm, listening, following instructions, taking turns, playing games, storytelling, and much more. Your child will have a creative outlet and place to burn some energy, but will also garner self-esteem and respect for others at the same time. Optional in-studio and special event performances may be available from season to season. These events may be rehearsed and priced separately from weekly classes.

Young students will learn solid ballet technique as well as injury prevention hip exercises and stretches, from a seasoned professional dancer and personal trainer holding multiple certifications and a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. We have fun with patterns, choreography, and seasonal music of all genres, (with a heavy focus on classical in ballet.)
Ballet technique can serve as time to improve posture and log physical activity, but it could also turn into a one-in-a-million career. Our instructor and any substitute teachers are in various stages of their own professional dance careers, so can speak to students and parents on considerations for customized training, and can further guide exceptional students in the right direction.
Age range for this class is flexible, based on readiness and skill level.

Taught by an accomplished professional dancer and lifetime certified trainer, "Ballet Balances" is a kinesthetically safe, (joint-friendly,) and balance-seeking class. It utilizes the imagery and symbiotic fluidity of ballet practice, as applied to both traditional dance steps and to unconventional alignment exercises. Designed exercises will improve coordination skills, create stable joints, better posture, improve breathing, and increase mental acuity. Tailored sequences guided by Kelly McCormick Bangs, a kinesiologist and dance instructor with over 17 years, (28 years combined,) experience in her fields will help students exude more grace and confidence. Note! With this class in mind, KMB Studio has been custom-designed to be proprioceptively enriched, serving the needs of clients and studio staff. No special footwear or dress code is required, although dark thick socks are highly recommended. Wear stretchy breathable clothing, (dressing room available,) and expect to leave class feeling lengthened, strengthened, and ready to tackle anything.
